COUNSELORS :: ELIZABETH RAMOS

Elizabeth Ramos, MSE, attended undergraduate college at Clarke College, Dubuque, IA. She graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. During her time in undergraduate school, she volunteered with AmeriCorps for two years. During that time, Elizabeth completed her service at Audubon Elementary School in Dubuque and taught kindergarteners and first graders. For two summers, Elizabeth assisted coordinating the recreational program at Audubon Playground for children ages 3 - 15.
After Elizabeth's experience with AmeriCorps she knew she wanted to work with children and families. Elizabeth continued to pursue her education and experience in the human services field.
In 2004, Elizabeth became a Youth Care Worker at Hillcrest Family Services. She worked with adolescent males who struggled with emotional and behavioral disorders for a year and a half. After that, she became a Teacher Associate at Hillcrest Family Services. Elizabeth worked in the therapeutic classroom with children ages 6 - 10 who also struggled with emotional and/or behavioral disorders. During her time at Hillcrest, she learned intervention strategies to work on with children of all ages to help them manage there behavior and emotions in socially appropriate ways.
During the summer of 2006, Elizabeth became a Youth Counselor at Four Oaks in Dubuque. She helped in the outpatient program for adolescents and assisted in coordinating groups and daily activities.
Fall of 2006, Elizabeth was accepted into graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to pursue a career in counseling children and families. During the first year of graduate school, Elizabeth was employed by the Dubuque Community School District as a paraprofessional at Irving Elementary School. She assisted teaching in a first grade classroom and assisted the teacher with daily lesson plans and activities. During Elizabeth's final year of graduate school, she completed her practicum hours at Fulton Elementary and Washington Junior High. Elizabeth graduated in 2008 with a Master of Science in Educational Counseling.
Currently, Elizabeth is working at Crossroads Counseling Center in Dubuque, Iowa. Her goal is to counsel children and/or families who are experiencing challenging situations in their lives and to work with them to find solutions to live a more well-balanced and happy life.
Elizabeth Ramos was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. (Maiden name Gibbs). In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, travel, create photographs and designs, read, and work on home improvements. Elizabeth resides in Dubuque with her husband.
