COUNSELORS :: JENNIFER HOYER
|
Jennifer Hoyer was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended the Dubuque public schools, and graduated from Hempstead High School in 1994.
Jennifer then attended Upper Iowa University, where she graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services and Psychology. Jennifer's undergraduate college experience was rich in social service and leadership experience. These experiences include being a student ambassador for the university, the student director of the university pep band, Vice President of Gamma Delta Phi Sorority, and a member of the University Women's Tennis Team. During the summer of her college career, Jennifer worked as a direct care staff at Area Residential Care, working with adults with developmental disabilities.
Since graduating from college in 1997, Jennifer has done a variety of work in the human services field, including supervision of staff in a 15 bed group home for profoundly disabled adults, doing counseling and teaching daily living classes in a day treatment center for chronically mentally ill adults, coordinating treatment planning and doing case management, and writing behavior modification programs.
In 2000, Jennifer returned to school. Jennifer began her graduate studies in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Northern Iowa. Jennifer accumulated 17 graduate credits there, and transferred to the University of Wisconsin, Platteville where she completed her Master's education in 2004. During this time, Jennifer worked at Julien Care facility as a social worker where she assisted adults with Chronic Mental Illness in accessing their resources and gaining the power of independence.
In 2004, Jennifer began work with Lutheran Services in Iowa. Jennifer did a variety of work for children and families at LSI, including Case Management, Family Team Meeting facilitation, Individual Counseling, Psychological Evaluations, and LPHA assessments.
Jennifer joined Crossroads Counseling Center in August of 2007as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Iowa. In her practice, Jennifer's areas of emphasis lie in the treatment of Personality Disorders, Teens, Parenting, and Adult Mental Health Issues. Jennifer has also recently focused her repertoire on the treatment of trauma in adults and children, and in attachment. Jennifer's approach is strength-based and phenomenological. She is well articulated in many counseling theories, and is skilled in her application to each unique person.
Jennifer is married with three children. In her spare time, she likes to play with her kids, cook, read, be silly, and enjoy friends and family.
