COUNSELORS :: YVETTE SAEUGLING
|
Yvette Saeugling, LISW, obtained her BSW through Wartburg College, Waverly, IA and then her MSW at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. She is very appreciative of experiences in college such as her memorable summer in Montaque, New Jersey as a camp counselor to girls from the innercity of New York. Those lives taught me more about counseling and myself than any other experience, as we hiked together 40 miles on the Appalachian trail and slept in the open outdoors.
Another impacting experience was located in Spanish Harlem of New York City, in which 13 college students lived together in one apartment off of comparable earnings of refugees. The host program was called “Circus” which was a three part program: ministry, International Association Against Torture ( a U.N. organization) and teaching English to Latin American refugees.
She also was a Big Sister starting the her junior year in college and was nominated by her littler sister to be the Big College Sister of the Year Award , which she did receive. Her little sister taught about connections and that sometimes people are more connected to you than you will ever know. Little did her little sister know how much she would come to think about her as Yvette developed her interests in attachment theory.
Right after undergraduate college, Yvette was employed by the Area Substance Abuse Council as an outpatient counselor in a rural area. She then worked in a dual-diagnosis unit providing individual, group and family counseling. The residential setting housed both boys and girls from across the state of Iowa but predominantly from impoverished innercity environments.
With this rich experience, Yvette entered graduate school taking the clinical track of social work. She completed her internship with the Gannon Mental Health Center in the a rural satellite office. She then began employment there upon graduation. Yvette conducted outpatient sessions though also, started an in-home therapy program in the rural office and also met with children at school through the school based counseling program. Once she moved to Dubuque, Yvette then continued with outpatient and school based counseling through the main office. She worked with one high school, two junior high and three elementaries in the Dubuque Community School District.
Yvette was then introduced to Parent Child Interaction Therapy, completed a training with Terry Kottman who utilizes Adlerian Play Therapy. Yvette also was trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Processing) used most often in cases in trauma.
Being from the Dubuque area, Yvette then began private practice. During this time, she became trained in Theraplay, which became not only a new therapy to utilize but a new way to conceptualize problems. Yvette has completed all trainings in Theraplay and currently working towards her certification in Theraplay.
Yvette then worked at Hillcrest while starting a new personal career as a mother. She then joined forces with her business partner Jon Filitti to begin Crossroads Counseling Center, LLC. Ms. Saeugling’s goal is to provide the most effective and comprehensive services to families in order for them to find peace and happiness in their lives. It is a real pleasure to work with experienced colleagues who share the same passion and goals.
